Vide Dressing et bourse au livre

Every year, thousands of tonnes of books in perfect condition are thrown out, and this contributes to climate change. To counter this phenomenon and promote a flourishing circular economy – especially after the resounding success of the first edition in October 2023 – another second-hand book sale will be held in the Schluechthaus's large hall on Sunday, 22 October 2024, from 10:00 to 16:00. The pop-op book sale is being organised by the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque in close collaboration with bookstagrammers @Betweenthelines and @Idealistatheart, with the help of volunteers from various associations involved in the world of the written word.

In the lead-up to the sale, the City is calling for anyone who would like to donate books – new or used – for the event to do so.

The second-hand book sale is an economical, environmentally friendly alternative to purchasing new books, and also encourages people to sell their used books. It's easy to take part in the second-hand book sale: just drop off the books you don't want any more at the Schluechthaus on one of the dates below:

  • Friday, 11 October 2024, 16:00–19:00
  • Saturday, 12 October 2024, 10:00–15:00

When you donate books, you will be given a voucher worth up to €5 – depending on how many books you donate – which you can then redeem at the Schluechthaus Book Fair on 20 October 2024. All of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the charity "Île aux clowns".

To ensure the quality of the books sold at this second-hand book fair is as high as it was in 2023, any books you donate must meet the following criteria:

  • relevant to contemporary life, or of enduring relevance
  • well-bound, without loose pages
  • no stains or unsightly blemishes
  • little or no highlighting or hand-written notes
  • no unpleasant odours

Please note that the following will not be accepted: textbooks, language resources, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, magazines, catalogues, and travel guides. Books from other libraries or self-service book kiosks will not be put up for sale.
