Cultural exchanges and tours to discover the delights of the four cities are at the heart of the new series of meet-ups being organised by QuattroPole throughout 2024. The aim is simple: to encourage cross-border mobility among residents of the QuattroPole network, and give them the opportunity to discover the four cities, making new friendships along the way.

The QuattroPole Shared Experiences – a hands-on project open to everyone

The QuattroPole Shared Experiences (Rencontres QuattroPole) series of meet-ups was born out of the desire to carry out more citizen-oriented projects, to facilitate mobility and encourage dialogue between inhabitants of the four member cities: Luxembourg City, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier. In 2024, QuattroPole is organising free buses, departing from all four cities, so participants can enjoy a day of discovery of a traditional, local or special event in one of the cities.

The QuattroPole Shared Experiences bring together 40 participants (10 per city) who can come to the meet-up of their choice and discover the specialities and traditions of the member cities, and enjoy an experience that truly transcends national borders. These day events always include a welcome programme to break the ice and get the conversation going between the 40 participants; then the participants are free to explore the event on offer. In most cases, the day ends with a final get-together, before the visitors get back on the coach.

Four cities, four events

Saarbrücken, 13 July 2024

Saarbrücken, which holds the presidency of the network until the end of 2024, will host the first of the Shared Experiences on Saturday, 13 July 2024, giving residents from its partner cities an introduction to its famous Altstadtfest. Participants will be welcomed at 11:30 at Saarbrücken City Hall, where they can meet their neighbours from across the border. At 13:00, they will be taken to the Altstadtfest, where they will have the whole afternoon to wander around and enjoy the city and the delights it has to offer. Finally, in the early evening, participants will be invited to a brasserie in the city centre for a celebratory gathering to round off the day's experiences, and those who wish to can sign up for the meet-up on 25 August 2024 in Metz. At 19:00, the buses will take all the participants back to their home cities.

Metz, 25 August 2024

On Sunday, 25 August 2024, the City of Metz will be hosting the second QuattroPole event of the year, with the famed Mirabelle plum festival in the city centre. Programme: The Marché des Saveurs (Flavour Market), Mirabelle plum tart contest, flotilla and, as a bonus, one of the four early-evening concerts organised as part of the QuattroPole Sessions (The Papertones band from Trier).

Luxembourg City, 2 September 2024

Luxembourg City will host the third of the QuattroPole Shared Experiences events on 2 September 2024, during which participants will have the opportunity to discover an emblematic Luxembourg event – the "Schueberfouer": the largest funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.

During this visit, participants can stroll through the streets of Luxembourg City and enjoy the annual Braderie.

Trier, 16 November 2024

Finally, Trier closes out the programme of four cross-border events with an unusual visit to the catacombs of Germany's oldest city on 16 November 2024, to coincide with the "Trier Unterwelten" (Trier Underworlds) festival.
