On Monday, 21 October, the City of Luxembourg will be running exclusive guided tours of the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque, the municipal library located in Rue Genistre in the heart of the capital.
Visitors will enter a world replete with books, media, and culture for a behind-the-scenes tour of this popular library, which styles itself as a place where people can go not only to read and learn but also to relax, socialise, and have a good time out! During the tour, you'll get a chance to explore the library's many sections – which cover three floors – and browse through its collections, which include some 80,000 books, 8,000 audiobooks, and 10,000 fictional films and documentaries, all of which are available on physical media. You'll also visit the comfortable reading area on the ground floor, the cosy space reserved for children and their mascot "Tuffi", and the workstations used for studying and research.
You'll also learn more about the multiple facets of the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque's work, the services it provides and, more generally, what is involved in running a modern library with more than 8,000 active readers and over 120,000 loans a year.
Your tour guides will also tell you more about the unique architectural style of the building housing the library, which is part of the multi-purpose "Cercle Cité" complex, and which welcomes hundreds of visitors daily in its inviting, user-friendly spaces bathed in natural light.
