Frequently Asked Questions

How long do disruptions last on average?

In the event of a disruption, the City of Luxembourg's Service Eaux (Water Department) will do its utmost to ensure the supply is restored. Repair works may take between two and four hours depending on the severity of the incident. To resolve the incident, the Service Eaux will work to contain the leak at its source. Water supply to the rest of the affected area will therefore be restored as the work progresses. If the necessary work requires more time than stipulated above, a temporary water supply source may be organised, the location of which will be published on this page. Please ensure that you have an adequate container if you wish to use this temporary water source.

The water supply has been restored but my tap water appears cloudy. What should I do?

Leave one of your cold water taps running slowly for a few minutes until the water clears.

The water supply has been restored but I still don't have any water in my apartment, or the flow and/or pressure is low. What should I do?

Check whether the other apartments in your building are also experiencing a disruption to the water supply. If the disruption only affects your apartment, check your aerators, water valves and/or your water filter in case cleaning or a change of filter is needed.

Are you experiencing problems with the water supply installations in your home system (sanitary unit, pipe, etc.)?

Contact a licensed plumber of your choice so that they can check this and, if necessary, repair the defect in your system. The Service Eaux is only responsible for the water supply up to your water meter.

The water from my taps smells bad. What should I do?

Rinse out your home drinking water system by leaving all your taps running for around ten minutes to refresh the water in your system.

Do you have any further questions or comments?

Please contact the Service Eaux (Tel.: 4796-2883 or email: eaux@vdl.lu)
