An emergency positioning system has been set up in the City of Luxembourg's forests with 22 emergency points and a very dense network of approximately 1,000 orientation points.

Wildfire and forest fire risks
In the event of prolonged periods of high temperatures with no rainfall, causing plant cover in meadows and forests to become dried out, any careless act, such as discarding a cigarette butt without extinguishing it completely, or sparks from a car or farming machinery, can be enough to start a fire.
Visitors to the forests are therefore urged to remain particularly vigilant to the risk of wildfires and forest fires, and to follow the recommended practices.
Recommended practices
- Always ensure your vehicle or farming machinery carries a fire extinguisher so that you can put out, or at least contain, a fire.
- Inspect your farming machinery regularly to prevent any technical problems that could cause sparks.
- Fill unused tanks with water and make them available to firefighters if needed.
- Always keep a harrow on hand to create a vegetation-free firebreak in the event of a fire.
- In the event of a fire, do not put yourself in danger. However, stand ready to assist the firefighters if they ask you to (e.g. using technical equipment or carrying water).
In the event of a fire, notify the emergency services immediately by calling 112. Remember to specify the location (forest emergency point, if there is one) and to show firefighters the way to the fire when they arrive on the scene.
