haus vun der natur

On Saturday, 26 October 2024, the Haus vun der Natur (nature centre) in Kockelscheuer will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. Since 1994, the former "Kräizhaff" farm, which dates back to the 1820s, has been operating as an archive, information and educational centre dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development.

After being abandoned in the 20th century, the "Kräizhaff" stood vacant for several decades until the City of Luxembourg purchased it in the 1970s. In 1994, the City made the building and its three-hectare plot available to natur&ëmwelt, and the Haus vun der Natur was founded. The centre has grown steadily over the years and is now a major player in organising educational initiatives about nature in Luxembourg.

Today, the Haus vun der Natur houses the offices of natur&ëmwelt ASBL, the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur, and the nature activities unit of the City of Luxembourg's Service Enseignement (Education Department). The surrounding site has includes features used to teach visitors about nature, such as an educational beehive, orchard, mini-farm, school garden, geological trail, greenhouse and a host of other attractions that are open to visitors.
