Remise de don Ile aux clowns - second hand book sale

On Thursday, 14 November 2024, at a ceremony attended by the members of the City of Luxembourg's College of Aldermen, the organisers of the second-hand book sale presented a check for €3,942.40 to Sylvie Philipp, a representative of the association "Île aux Clowns". This amount stems from the proceeds of the book sale, which took place on Sunday, 20 October 2024 during the "Second Hand at Schluechthaus" event on the site of the old slaughterhouse in Hollerich. The one-day pop-up book sale was organised by the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque in close collaboration with bookstagrammers @Betweenthelines and @Idealistatheart, and volunteers from various associations involved in the world of the written word. All of the volunteers were delighted with the tremendous success of the event, which had already raised €1,925 for "Stëmm vun der Strooss" when it was first held in October 2023. The fact that this charitable initiative raised even more money this year is a clear sign of its success, and the organisers are already looking forward to the next edition of the second-hand book sale in October 2025.

All of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to "Île aux Clowns", a team of hospital clowns who work year-round to provide support, consolation, a smile and a listening ear to people of all ages who are going through a difficult time. In providing their services, the clowns work closely with facilities' healthcare workers, and attach great importance to respecting each beneficiary's personal circumstances. The association works with more than 30 facilities across the country, including hospitals, treatment centres, day-care centres and reception centres. All of the clowns' services are free for all beneficiaries. These services would not be possible without the generosity of donors.

The City of Luxembourg would like to thank everyone who did something good for the environment by making a donation or purchasing a book, while at the same time contributing to a worthwhile cause.
