When Stanislas discovered he had insulin-dependent diabetes at the age of 15, his carefree childhood was shattered by the evidence of the disease. The happy boy he had been became gloomy and isolated. Then he met Fleur, who turned his life upside down. With her free and sunny personality, this young woman introduces him to the power of poetry, capable of reviving a withered perception of reality and giving meaning to life in the face of death. The show is the story of this encounter, of the friendship that ensued and of the vital rebound that it triggered.
Stanislas Roquette's autobiographical account is full of energy, humour and tenderness, recounting the shock of a medical diagnosis and the light that life can sometimes give us in return. Insuline & Magnolia is also the story of an adolescent's initiation into literature, in this case classical French theatre and poetry.
The text of the show is published by Actes-Sud in the collection 'Au singulier'.
