The Archives municipales (Municipal Archives) house:
- the document files of the municipal administration;
- the civil registers;
- Luxembourg's historical resources.
They are open to the public for historical and genealogical research from Monday to Friday, by appointment only. Registers and historical documents can be on site free of charge.
Mission
The Municipal Law of 13 December 1988 (loi communale du 13 décembre 1988) stipulates in article 57 thereof that the College of the Mayor and Aldermen ensures the safekeeping of the archives, titles and civil registry records; it produces inventories thereof in duplicate, as well as of charters and other old records of the municipal office, and precludes the removal of any documents."
