Overview

Changes will be made to some of the City's AVL bus schedules as of Sunday, 7 July 2024. These changes are necessary to ensure that our public transport services operate at optimal efficiency and respond to users' needs. As there may be changes to the departure times at some bus stops, users are asked to check the planned schedules, which are displayed at bus stops, online at (bus.vdl.lu) and in the cityapp - VDL app.

Hard-copy (paper) schedules for all bus lines are also available at the Infobus point (Place d'Armes, Cercle Cité building, corner of Rue Genistre).

Overview of the changes

  • Stop closures and new service frequency on AVL line 20
  • New route on AVL line 22
  • Termination of the AVL line 28 service
  • Two new stops on AVL line 24
  • Opening of the Howald-Gare transfer hub
  • Change of name for the "Leonardo Da Vinci" stop
  • Discontinuation of service to the "Laboratoire Quai 1" and "Laboratoire Quai 2" bus stops

Stop closures and new service frequency on AVL line 20

Starting on 7 July 2024, line 20 buses – which currently operate between P+R Bouillon, Luxembourg Central Station, Cloche d'Or and Parc Luxite (Kockelscheuer) – will call only at the stops between Luxembourg Central Station and Parc Luxite.

The "Betriebshof", "P+R Bouillon", "Hollerich-Kierfecht", "Jean-Baptiste Merkels" and "Fonderie" stops will be closed. Due to the new tram connection, buses will operate at a frequency of one every 15 or 30 minutes instead of the current frequency of one every 10 or 20 minutes.

New route on AVL line 22

With the opening of a new tram connection, the need for AVL line 22 between Luxembourg Central Station and P+R Stade de Luxembourg was reconsidered.

Starting on 7 July, line 22 buses will operate along the line 20 route between P+R Bouillon and Luxembourg Central Station, and then will continue along their usual route between Luxembourg Central Station and "Strassen, Primeurs".

Termination of the AVL line 28 service

With the extension of the tram service to Cloche d'Or, the AVL line 28 service – which currently operates between Luxembourg Central Station and the "Howald-Op der Stirzel" terminus – and the tram service between Luxembourg Central Station and the Howald-Gare transfer hub would overlap. Since the tram can cover the transport needs along this route, the AVL line 28 service will be discontinued.

New bus stops

"Laang Heck Quai 3" and "Laang Heck Quai 4"

Two new stops – "Laang Heck Quai 3" and "Laang Heck Quai 4" – will be opened on Rue de la Barrière on the line 24 route, at the intersection of Rue de la Barrière and Route de Longwy. With the opening of these new stops, the link between Luxembourg Hospital Centre (Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg – CHL) and Bertrange centre will be more direct, as they will provide connections between AVL lines 5, 22 and 24 at a single station.

Howald, Gare / transfer hub

With the opening of the Howald-Gare transfer hub and the extension of the tram service on 7 July 2024, this new hub will be served by buses on lines 5, 24 and 29.

Bus stop names

With the opening of the new "Waassertuerm" tram stop on Boulevard de Kockelscheuer, the "Leonardo Da Vinci" bus stops will be renamed as of 7 July. These stops will be renamed to "Gasperich, Waassertuerm". For the sake of consistency and to avoid confusion, the "Waassertuerm" stop in Limpertsberg will be renamed to "Limpertsberg, Waassertuerm".

Discontinuation of service to the "Laboratoire Quai 1" and "Laboratoire Quai 2" bus stops

As part of the redevelopment works on Rue Auguste Lumière, service to the "Laboratoire Quai 1" and "Laboratoire Quai 2" stops on AVL lines 7 and 27 will be discontinued.
