On Monday, 10 February 2025, the College of the Mayor and Aldermen welcomed to City Hall the Bureau of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, which is the agency in charge of promoting local and regional democracy in Europe.
This visit was part of the event programme surrounding a session of the Bureau of the Congress held at the European Convention Center Luxembourg at the invitation of the Luxembourg delegation to the Congress, on the occasion of Luxembourg's current Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. In her address, Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer expressed her delight at welcoming to City Hall the executive body of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, which works tirelessly to promote democratic values, protect fundamental rights and encourage cooperation between towns and regions in its 46 member states.
The Congress Bureau was accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden, Luxembourg Ambassador and President of the European Institute of Cultural Routes André Biever, President of the European Association for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage François Moyse, and members of the Bureau of the Syndicat des Villes et Communes luxembourgeoises (SYVICOL), which is responsible for coordinating the Luxembourg delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
