On Thursday, 30 January 2025, Minister of Health and Social Security Martine Deprez and Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer inaugurated the "MARGA" day centre, a care facility for women who use illegal drugs. This initiative marks a major step forward in providing support to a particularly vulnerable group of the population.
The "MARGA" day care centre, run by the Comité national de défense sociale (National Committee for Social Protection – CNDS), has been specially designed to meet the needs of women drug users in order to improve their safety. These women are genrally faced with complex issues, including emergency situations, various forms of violence (psychological, sexual, physical) and often cumulative health problems, both physical and psychological. These factors, combined with social instability, make them particularly vulnerable and difficult to support within the existing mixed-gender care facilites.
