The City has officially opened a new bicycle cage at P+R Bouillon as part of its policy on promoting multimodality. This new 64-place bicycle cage is located on the eastern side of the P+R Bouillon car park, within easy reach from the cycle path that runs alongside Rue de Bouillon.

Cages incorporated into the bikebox network

This new bicycle cage is the fourth that the City of Luxembourg has opened in strategic locations across the city, which include Place du Théâtre (city centre), the Victor Hugo Hall (Limpertsberg), Dernier Sol (Bonnevoie), and now P+R Bouillon (Hollerich). These secure, multi-bike parking facilities are part of the bikebox (formerly mBox) network operated by the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL). To use these facilities – which are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – simply order a free personal access key online from the CFL.

Incentive to encourage cycling

By installing bikeboxes in urban areas, in keeping with its policy on promoting active travel, the City is seeking to provide an additional incentive for people to adopt utility cycling (cycling as a means of transport for everyday needs), while at the same time meeting the growing demand for secure bike parking for both conventional bikes and e-bikes in urban areas or near public transport. The City's choice of locations also complements the existing network, which focuses mainly on railway stations.
