For Orange Week 2024 – an initiative aimed at combating violence against women and girls – the City of Luxembourg is inviting the public to come and form an "orange" human chain at 12:15 on Monday, 25 November 2024, in Place Guillaume II in front of Luxembourg City Hall. The City is urging the general public to come show solidarity and help raise awareness for this issue. To maximise the impact of the event, participants are asked to wear an orange item of clothing or accessory.
At this now-traditional gathering, Luxembourgish singer Carisa Dias will be performing her latest song, "There for You", which addresses the issue of violence against women.
Exhibition: "Soft Voices"
To mark this year's Orange Week, the Bierger-Center will also be hosting an exhibition on the theme of domestic violence, entitled "Soft Voices", by Luxembourgish visual artist Nadine Rocco. The exhibition, which will be running from late November until the end of December 2024, showcases works that challenge viewers to look beyond the surface and face uncomfortable truths that are all too often either downplayed or ignored. The works are characterised by the use of contrasting materials – some hard and others soft – all of which are rendered in soft, muted colours belying the harsh realities that the materials represent.
- 25 November to 31 December 2024 / Monday–Friday, from 8:00 to 17:00 / Bierger-Center, 44, place Guillaume II
- Vernissage: 26 November 2024 at 16:30, with the College of the Mayor and Aldermen and the artist in attendance
- Admission is free
