National "e-mobility" project

Chargy is Luxembourg's network of publicly accessible charging stations for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. It has been operational since June 2017. For 2019, the managing authority plans to install 200 new charging stations across the country. The network is expected to reach 800 charging stations by the end of 2021: 400 in public municipal car parks and 400 in park-and-ride car parks, which provide easy access to public transport.

As each station has two rapid charging points (adjustable between 3.7 kW and 22 kW depending on the car), Chargy will ultimately have 1,600 parking spaces for electric vehicles.

102 stations in Luxembourg City

102 of the country's 800 charging stations will be located in the capital. By 2013, the City of Luxembourg had already launched a project to install electric charging stations in three public car parks (Schuman, Rocade and P+R Bouillon). This was extended in 2016 with the installation of three electric charging stations in the car park of the Luxembourg City Conservatoire.

The charging stations will be located on public thoroughfares and in car parks in such a way as to create a dense network, guaranteeing maximum, city-wide coverage.

Accepted payment methods

Payment can be made at all charging stations belonging to the network using a standard issue Chargy mKaart smartcard, which also functions as a Verkéiersverbondtransport pass. Users must subscribe with a charging service provider in order to access the stations using their Chargy mKaart card. Once they have subscribed, they will be able to view their electricity charges and locate charging stations.
