The 18th iteration of LE MUR Luxembourg, which kicks off on Friday, 28 March 2025, spotlights Belgian artist Élisa Morlet, also known as IOTA, a rising star on the contemporary mural scene. Although her alias is Greek for "the smallest detail", she has gained worldwide renown for her enormous murals. IOTA, who was born in 1991, embarked on her artistic career in 2013 on the streets of Brussels, where she explored a range of themes through vibrant murals infused with subtle messages. She developed a sophisticated painting style in which atmospheric movements and colours play with shadow and light, revealing enigmatic human figures. By painting in this style she seeks to transcend reality and immerse the viewer in the abstract realm of emotions, and in so doing expose the subconscious.
Through her murals and paintings on canvas, IOTA has honed a polished and instantly recognisable pictorial technique. Her graphite-on-paper drawings also demonstrate great precision and a spirit that encompasses both restraint and liberation.
