On 13 December 13, 2024, a milestone was reached in the development of the "Nei Hollerich" urban development project. Minister of Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, and representatives of the Nei Hollerich Economic Interest Grouping (EIG), the Fonds de compensation, Luxtram and the National Roads Administration signed a framework agreement aimed at ensuring optimum coordination in view of the finalisation of the working design and future works.
The agreement is based on an initiative by the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works together with the Nei Hollerich EIG to coordinate the multitude of exchanges between private and public players.
The Nei Hollerich EIG, headed by its members Paul Wurth Real Estate S.A. and Landimmo Real Estate s.à r.l., is currently developing an urban planning project for 4,500 residents and 5,000 jobs, together with the Fonds de compensation, which is responsible for redeveloping the site of the former headquarters of the national social security agency. The final validation of the plans is a decisive phase before work can begin. Demolition work has already begun, paving the way for the first buildings and infrastructure to be constructed over the next few years.
