My Baby

About

MY BABY is a Dutch-New Zealand trio, they play roots driven hypnotic dance. It’s a sound informed by gospel and blues singing and playing fused with ancient folk melodies. Added to that is the rawness of seventies funk, african desert blues, moroccan gnawa, indian raga and a touch of EDM all played on guitars and drums without using computers or samples. They have been spreading their psychedelic blues-trance rave to the approval of audiences worldwide since 2012, featuring on renowned festivals such as Glastonbury (UK), Isle of Wight (UK), Sziget (HU), Fusion (DE), Exit (RS), Lowlands (NL) and Pinkpop (NL).

Jimmy Reiter Band

About

“Excellent modern blues from a real expert and a great band that you will want to check out.”

That was what one reviewer across the pond – in the home of the blues no less – wrote of Jimmy Reiter's 2015 record “Told You So”.

So a high bar had been set when the Jimmy Reiter Band headed into the studio in autumn 2018 to record the title track for their third album “What You Need”, especially with their debut “High Priest of Nothing” having already scooped the German Record Critics' Award in 2011. But with further accolades under their belt, such as the German Blues Award for Best German Blues Band and guitarist and vocalist Reiter being named “best contemporary blues artist” (Blues-in-Germany), the group had more than enough wind in their sails.

Naturally, Reiter's compositions, described by daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung as “a liberating alternative to the daily hit parade played on most radio stations”, make up the majority of the latest release, which Reiter recorded with the original line-up of Jasper Mortier (bass), Björn Puls (drums) and Nico Dreier (keys). As you would expect from Reiter, the album covers a wide range of styles, from urban electric blues to funky R&B. Original songs are complemented by covers, for which the group have delved deep into the R&B archives. On some tracks, the quartet is joined by a four-piece wind ensemble from the US whose members include Boston saxophone virtuoso, Sax Gordon, and New Orleans tenor sax legend, Amadee Castenell, the latter having played with such greats as Allen Toussaint, Elvis Costello, Dr. John and Paul McCartney as a touring and session musician.

Following on from the release of “What You Need”, the Jimmy Reiter Band is returning to club and festival stages with their latest album “LIVE” and their inimitable take on modern, electric big town blues.
