On Monday, 1 July, Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden, Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, Esch-sur-Alzette Mayor Christian Weis, and Director General of the Grand Ducal Police Pascal Peters unveiled the Local Police pilot project, which will run for six months in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette.

Shoring up the police presence in public spaces

This pilot project aligns with the government's goals of shoring up the police presence in public spaces and being truly on the ground, closer to the population, with the aim of strengthening prevention and improving people's sense of safety:

Public safety is a priority for the College of Aldermen. A police presence is crucial for guaranteeing that people follow the rules that govern our society and for boosting the population's sense of safety. By being present on the ground and closer to the public, the local police will be able to respond quickly if needed, and they will serve as a deterrent by patrolling in public spaces. I am confident that this pilot project will help make our capital safer.
