As is the case every year, the Easter festivities signal the opening of the "Éimaischen" crafts market, one of the most iconic events in Luxembourg's calendar of traditional festivals. The "Éimaischen" market dates back to at least 1827 and its main theme is pottery and ceramics.
Among the most popular items at the market are the traditional small bird-shaped terracotta whistles known as Péckvillercher, which are sold only at the Éimaischen. Since their appearance varies each year, people queue up first thing in the morning to get their hands on these coveted collectibles. The bird-like calls of these whistles mingle with the sounds of other folkloric activities, creating a uniquely charming atmosphere.
The crafts market – organised jointly by the City of Luxembourg's Service Événements, fêtes et marchés (Events, Festivals and Markets Department) and the Alstad Committee – will be held on Easter Monday, 21 April 2025, from 8:00 to 17:00, in the historic alleyways of the Old Town, in particular in the Marché-aux-Poissons, Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, Rue de l'Eau, Rue de la Reine, Rue de la Boucherie, Rue du Rost, and Rue Sigefroi.
Programme of events
The day will feature appearances by various folklore groups performing songs, dances and music at the Marché-aux-Poissons, outside the National Museum of History and Art, from 10:00 to 17:15.
In addition to the stalls and programme of entertainment, the City of Luxembourg will also be hosting free face-painting sessions for children, from 10:00 to 17:00, at the intersection of Rue du Rost and Rue de la Boucherie.
Crafts market
For the 2025 edition of the Éimaischen, the City of Luxembourg's Service Espace public, Fêtes et marchés received 98 vendor applications, of which 83 were selected.
Along a 600-metre-long stretch, visitors will find stalls and stands offering items produced in ceramic, pottery and craft workshops in Luxembourg and abroad, and much more.
