The Service Événements, fêtes et marches (Department of Events, Festivals and Markets) is tasked with coordinating the planning, design, facilities and use of public spaces, and organising or helping to organise events held in Luxembourg City's public spaces.
The department consists of three units:
- Planning and design of public spaces
- Planning and scheduling of events
- Use of public spaces
Over the course of a year, the Service Événements, fêtes et marches deals with nearly 2,000 requests to hold events or use public spaces, and organises or co-organises more than 100 markets, 7 flea markets, and 50 different events in the city, including the Éimaischen, the Oktavmäertchen, National Day festivities, the Schueberfouer and the Winterlights festival with its Christmas markets.
In terms of the design and planning of public spaces, the department is involved in more than 60 projects and participates in various working groups such as the Comité d'art urbain (urban art committee), the UNESCO Management Committee, and retailer associations.
