The ING Night Marathon Luxembourg is organised with the support of a large number of local cultural and athletic associations. The Luxembourg Athletics Federation (Fédération luxembourgeoise d'Athlétisme) ensures the official nature of the race. The Luxembourg government and the City of Luxembourg are also involved in its organisation. The success of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg is made possible by the support of the Grand Ducal Police, the National Roads Administration (Administration des Ponts et Chaussées), and almost all of Luxembourg City's municipal departments.

The race is open to both professional runners and amateurs. Participants can choose between a number of set distances (marathon, half-marathon, relay, children's race, etc.) The marathon follows a particularly spectacular route. It passes through the new European Quarter, the historic city centre, and the picturesque Pétrusse Valley. Once the sun sets (it is the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg after all), the action really gets going.

While the race is the main event, it is far from the only attraction: over time, the marathon has become a sort of popular public festival. Spectators are treated to an unforgettable evening:  live bands, dance groups, street vendors and merchants, and drinks stands .
