“You’re an actor, you dream of doing films, you struggle a bit, and then one day you get an offer for the role of your dreams. The director is Roman Polanski. What do you do?”
As #MeToo unleashes thousands of testimonies and artists fall under accusations of sexual assault, what to make of this question: Should we separate the man from the artist? What should we do with the works of Roman Polanski, Louis-Ferdinand Céline or Claude Lévêque?
Director Étienne Gaudillère, faithful to his exploration of the media and film scene, has created a show with journalist Giulia Foïs (played on stage by Marion Aeschlimann), host of the feminist programme En marge on France Inter and author of the autobiographical stories Je suis une sur deux and Ce que le féminisme m’a fait.
Touching on the intimate as well as the public, this creation stands out as an artistic and media laboratory that redraws the contours of our art history, knocking the ‘great men’ off their pedestals and giving birth to the story of a political awakening.
