Overview
Flooding mainly occurs when watercourses overflow and submerge adjacent areas following long periods of heavy rainfall. The difference between flooding and heavy rains is that during flooding, the rainfall continues for a longer period of time and is less heavy. Flooding is likely to occur in areas that are typically at risk of flooding, but can also affect places that rarely experience flooding. There is also the risk that the sanitation systems will overflow.

Report-it
Please let us know about any flooding that occurs in public spaces. Your report will be forwarded to the relevant departments, and they will resolve the issue. You will be kept abreast of their progress.

Dos and don'ts
- Keep abreast of flood warnings on inondations.lu and other weather warnings on meteolux.lu;
- Protect your property with removable, individual protectors (sandbags, flood barriers, etc.);
- Keep a water pump on hand;
- Turn off the electricity in all the rooms that may flood;
- Turn off the heating and the supply of gas or heating oil. Make sure your heating oil tank is secured properly;
- Promptly remove objects that are harmful to the environment from areas at risk of flooding;
- Move your car out of the danger area, but only if there is still time;
- Avoid river banks and flooded roads;
- Gather all your important personal documents and take them to a safe place;
- Do not go into rooms that are likely to flood (basements, garages, etc.);
- Make sure to have a flashlight and a supply of drinking water;
- In case of damage, take pictures and contact your insurance provider;

Saving human lives takes priority over saving property. Cooperate with the rescue workers if they ask you to evacuate and follow all their instructions to the letter!
NB: Fire-fighters do not empty flooded rooms during floods.
