Addressing environmental challenges
Successive crises in recent years – such as the global pandemic, geopolitical upheaval and natural disasters – have underscored the importance of promoting energy sobriety and self-sufficiency, more circular economies to reduce the need for resources, and bolstering measures to enhance resilience and adapt to a growing number of climate-related challenges. The City of Luxembourg is ready to meet these environmental challenges and sees them as opportunities to develop more resilient, green and liveable urban spaces, with the aim of improving residents' quality of life. In addition to these major challenges, there have been positive developments in a number of areas, as the City of Luxembourg's many actions over the years are bearing fruit, and ought to be pursued.
Environmental Report and Action Plan
The Environmental Action Plan was developed in 2007 as a policy instrument to guide and organise the City of Luxembourg's environment-related actions. Each year, the City of Luxembourg publishes a review of its environment-related actions in an Environmental Report, which is used to reassess progress on the Action Plan over time and, if necessary, recalibrate the City's actions so they align more closely with the set targets. As the saying goes, "There can be no progress without measurement", which is why tracking key figures is crucial for benchmarking and effective environmental management.
To make the report more engaging and accessible for the general public, its visual presentation has been completely redesigned since the 2021-2022 edition. In addition to its new visual identity, the report's structure has also been redesigned and it is now divided into a condensed section and a "further reading" section with more details. Infographics are now used to provide overviews of environmental topics and key figures.
