Addressing environmental challenges
Successive crises in recent years – such as the global pandemic, geopolitical upheaval and natural disasters – have underscored the importance of promoting energy sobriety and self-sufficiency, more circular economies to reduce the need for resources, and stronger measures to enhance resilience and adapt to a growing number of climate-related challenges. The City of Luxembourg is ready to meet these environmental challenges and sees them as opportunities to develop more resilient, green and liveable urban spaces for a higher quality of life. In addition to these major challenges, there have been positive developments in a number of areas, demonstrating the extent to which the City of Luxembourg's many actions over the years are working and should be continued.
Environmental Report and Action Plan
The Environmental Action Plan was developed in 2007 as a policy instrument to guide and organise the City of Luxembourg's environment-related actions. Each year, the City of Luxembourg publishes a review of its environment-related actions in an Environmental Report, which is used to reassess progress on the Action Plan and, if necessary, recalibrate the City's actions so they align more closely with the set targets.
Given the growing amount of information and data to be collected and analysed, and the fact that the environmental aspect is increasingly embedded in the City's various fields of action, the Environmental Report was reorganised and given a new visual identity with effect from the 2021/2022 edition, followed by a complete overhaul of the summary version in 2023. Infographics are now used to provide overviews of environmental topics and key figures.
