Introduction

Inspired by the "MUR Oberkampf" in Paris, where more than 300 artists have left their mark over the years, and following on from the graffiti project at the ventilation tower at Place Guillaume II, "LE MUR LUXEMBOURG" features temporary works of graffiti and street art in a range of styles on its 30 m2 urban canvas.

Rue du Fort Neipperg

The LE MUR Luxembourg urban art project was launched in March 2022, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation I love Graffiti and, since then, more than 13 spray can masters have left their mark on the gable wall at 23, rue du Fort Neipperg.

New location in Rue du St-Esprit

Due to the extension of the Rocade building, LE MUR was moved to a new location in Ville Haute, where it now occupies the façade of the Lëtzebuerg City Museum at 14, rue du St-Esprit. The new location of the "Modulable - Urbain – Réactif" (MUR) concept is expected to unlock new potential for the LE MUR Luxembourg urban art project, while providing it with a home in the heart of the city centre.

Project initiated by I Love Graffiti ASBL, with the support of the City of Luxembourg.

This 15th iteration of LE MUR gives artist Pro176 the opportunity to enchant passers-by with his vision of the world.

Pro176

Acclaimed French artist Pro176 is known for his large sci-fi scenes, which appear like they have been plucked out of a comic book – colourful and energetic, and outlined with thick black lines. Shaped by the French graffiti scene of the 1990s, he is one of the founders of Ultra Boys International, an avant-garde graffiti crew that developed its own new aesthetic.

Inspired by the graphic universe of Jack Kirby, in which the eternal philosophical battle of good versus evil plays out amidst infinite galaxies populated by heroes and supervillains, "after all, the universe is vast, just like the creatures that must inhabit it". Large futuristic machines and spaceships straight out of a sci-fi movie – themes he's drawn on since childhood, as a veritable film buff – often appear in the background. His letters are highly stylised and blend perfectly into this offbeat universe, where the anatomical features of his characters are truncated against the vivid colour palette often used in his work.

In 2009, he met SEEN, the "Godfather of graffiti". The two artists strike up a natural connection, and soon after he starts collaborating with Seen Studios. With SEEN's guidance, he learns to paint with acrylics and paintbrushes, and his newly acquired techniques give his work a more polished look. More recently, he has created large abstract pieces bursting with vibrant colours and outlined in black, including images such as a comic book bubble from which one or more eyes seem to be looking straight back at you. "The eye sees… everything, but can also deceive us" about the hidden meaning of things, their real significance – it's all a matter of interpretation.

The vernissage will be held on 12 July 2024 (17:30) on Rue du St-Esprit.
