Project description
The City of Luxembourg is carrying out upgrade works in Bonnevoie-Nord/Verlorenkost: Rue Lavoisier, Rue Auguste Lumière, Rue Charles Calmette, Rue Emile Mayrisch, Rue Pierre de Coubertin, Rue Aloyse Meyer and Boulevard Gustave Jacquemart.
These works are being done in cooperation with:
- VDL – Service Voirie (Roads Department): Redevelopment of the road superstructure (parking bays, tree pits, pedestrian walkway redevelopment, narrower intersections).
- VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department): Replacement of deteriorated pipelines in the separate sewer network on Rue E. Mayrisch and deteriorated combined waste water pipelines on Rue A. Lumière, Rue Ch. Calmette, Rue A. Meyer and Boulevard G. Jacquemart.
- VDL – Service Énergie (Energy Department): Extension of the district heating network on Rue A. Lumière
- VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Complete replacement of the main water distribution line and replacement of home water supply lines that have deteriorated.
- VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system, and replacement of street lamps. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians.
- VDL – Service TIC (ICT Department – network and communications): Upgrade and rollout of the fibre-optic network and extension of Luxembourg City's WIFI network.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Electricité: Replacement and extension of the low- and high-voltage power network, which is insufficient in its current design and generally in a state of deterioration. Replacement of home utility connections. Upgrade of public lighting connections and Creos electrical grids with VDL electric metre boxes.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Gaz (BP): Complete replacement of the main gas supply line and replacement of deteriorated home gas supply lines.
Works schedule
Commencement of work: Spring 2023
Expected duration of the works: 500 working days (from 7:00 to 17:00)
Planned completion: Autumn 2025
Traffic information
What is the current traffic situation?
For vehicular traffic
The affected sections will be gradually closed off to traffic as the project progresses. Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works. Vehicular access to private property will be maintained as long as physically possible. Certain parking spots will be removed as the works progress.
For businesses and deliveries
The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works. As construction progresses, there will be changes to traffic flow in this area.
For public transport users
No changes.
Progress to date
What work has already been completed?
Infrastructure and superstructure work has been completed in Rue Auguste Lumière, Rue Lavoisier and Rue Pierre de Coubertin. The top layer of the road surface will be laid shortly.
What work remains to be done?
In Rue Émile Mayrisch, the work on the dry utility networks in the pavement and the road superstructure remain to be done.
On Boulevard Gustave Jacquemart, the work to replace the water pipe lines, gas mains, dry utility networks in the pavement, and the road superstructure remain to be done.
On Rue Charles Calmette, the work to replace the sewer lines, water pipe lines, gas mains, dry utility networks in the pavement, and the road superstructure remain to be done.
In Rue Aloyse Meyer and Square Aloyse Meyer, the work to replace the sewer lines, water pipe lines, gas mains, dry utility networks in the pavement, and the road superstructure remain to be done.

- As part of the construction project, City representatives and private contractors will visit residents' homes.
- To assess the condition of their existing connections.
- If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please inform the Luxembourg City representatives during this on-site inspection.

Stay informed
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have.
Weekly site meetings
The meeting will be held every Friday at 9:30 at the site hut in Rue Auguste Lumière and on the construction site.
Information session
An information session for local residents was held on 9 December 2022.
