Purchase and repair of electric household appliances

Only natural persons are eligible whose main and permanent home address is in Luxembourg City, and who use the appliances and equipment in question for private purposes.

This grant is awarded in the following cases:

  • Purchase of a washing machine
  • Purchase of a dryer
  • Purchase of a fridge or fridge-freezer
  • Purchase of a freezer
  • Purchase of a dishwasher
  • Repair of household appliances (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, fridge or fridge-freezer, freezer) regardless of energy rating

With regard to the purchase of new household electrical appliances, only those with the highest energy-efficiency rating available on the market in their category are eligible for financial aid under this regulation. The selection criteria published by Oekotopten on the date of the grant application serve as the reference for determining the highest energy efficiency rating available on the market.

In the case of subsidies for repairs, eligible appliances (listed below) do not have to meet the energy efficiency class criterion.

The repairs must be carried out by a professional with all the necessary accreditations.

Why choose to repair?

The total energy requirements of an (electric household) appliance are not limited to the energy required for its use; it also includes the energy required throughout its entire life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials and manufacturing (embodied energy), to its use and end-of-life recycling or destruction. New appliances are generally more energy efficient, but if the entire life cycle of the appliance is considered, it is often more sustainable to repair the appliance than to replace it.
