Project description

The City of Luxembourg's Service Eaux (Water Department) is carrying out emergency works to replace the drinking water main in Rue des Peupliers (on the section between Nos. 17 and 43). These works are being carried out in collaboration with the following municipal departments and partners:

VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Replacement of kerbs that are no longer up to code.
VDL– Service Eaux (Water Department): Replacement of the principal water main.

Works schedule

Commencement of work: 11/04/2025
Expected duration of the works: 35 working days
Planned completion: End of 2025

Traffic information

What is the current traffic situation?

For vehicular traffic:

Traffic will be redirected with traffic signs. Works sections will have a maximum length of 40 metres.

Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works. Vehicular access to private property will be maintained as long as physically possible.

For businesses and deliveries:

The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works.

Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the Service Circulation (Traffic Depatment). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding, and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

For public transport users:

Preparatory work for earthworks.

Earthworks to lay new water mains.
Laying of the new water mains.
Repair of roadway and replacement of kerbs.

To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator or one of the construction mediators.
