Cinémathèque Film Club

What’s almost as good – and sometimes better – than watching a film? Talking about it, of course. Cinémathèque Film Club screens a print from our archives chosen by a special guest, who will discuss their pick with the audience after the screening.

Set in the neon-washed underworld of present-day Hong Kong, Fallen Angels intertwines two exhilarating tales of love and isolation as we follow a hit man desperate to get out and his elusive female partner.

« If you're fed up with the stultifying, formula-driven character of today's mainstream films, give Fallen Angels a try. At the very least you'll be engaged, and if you're lucky you may just recapture some of your original wonder at the seductive power of movies. » (Austin Chronicle)

Kiyan Agadjani is a Luxembourg writer-director whose short, Arman & Elisa, won the Oscar-qualifying Austin Film Festival.

« Never has eating McDonald’s at 3a.m. felt as poetic as it does in Fallen Angels. Neon-soaked streets of night-time Hong Kong, frenetic camera movements and a few restless humans longing for connection. It’s a 90-minute dream you’ll never want to leave.
